MDDCSAM collaborated with the MD Psychiatric Society, proposing the same amendments, which were largely adopted. We noted our enthusiasm about possible benefits of psychedelics, but suggested that the task force should be unconstrained and free to consider all scenarios, not legally bound to make preparations for a “Maryland Natural Psychedelic Substance Access Program” a priori, before beginning its work. We noted that risks are often underestimated with novel therapies, and summarized some evidence of possible risks of psychedelics, along with their apparent benefits. Ultimately, the Taskforce’s mandate was re-written without these constraints as we had suggested.
