Dr. Shah is a Board-Certified Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine Physician.  He works at the Maryland Department of Health as the SUD Consultant to the Behavioral Health Administration.  Dr. Shah is also the medical director of the Wicomico County Department of Health Methadone OTP and the BHLI van offering low barrier buprenorphine outside Baltimore City Jail.

Previously, Dr. Shah has worked as a full spectrum Family Medicine Physician in Martinez, California, as well as a Public Health Physician within the Contra Costa County Public Health Department.  In addition to his work in Addiction Medicine, Dr. Shah is currently an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and a Family Planning Physician at Planned Parenthood of Maryland.

Dr. Daviss is a Physician Informaticist Consultant, Board-certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.  He was elected President of the Baltimore City Medical Society at MedChi in December 2025.  Dr. Daviss was the Chief Medical Officer for the Maryland Medicaid Behavioral Health Administrative Services Organization, Optum Maryland (2021-2024). He had served as the Medical Director of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), and was the Chair of the Dept of Psychiatry at University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. Dr. Daviss was a co-editor & co-author of THE ASAM CRITERIA, 4th Edition.

Dr. Alvanzo, graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, has a master’s in biostatistics from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine. She is a Physician Principal at Health Management Associates, where her consulting has focused on supporting states in improving behavioral health service delivery and advancing cultural humility and equity in addiction treatment. Dr. Alvanzo is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), currently chairs the ASAM Annual Conference Program Planning Committee, and is Secretary of ASAM. As chapter President, she collaborated with Past President Dr. George Kolodner to incorporate the D.C. chapter into the Maryland-DC Society of Addiction Medicine.

• Introduced insurance-reimbursed intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) in the U.S. when he opened the first IOP, arranged for insurance reimbursement, and directed it for 50 years.
• Was the chief editor of the Withdrawal Management chapter of the 3rd Edition of the ASAM Criteria and contributed to multiple chapters of the 4th Edition.
• Designed and implemented a unique ASAM Level 1.7 treatment program, Triple Track Treatment,

• Is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University and University of Maryland

Collaborated with Dr. Anika Alvanzo to incorporate the Maryland and D.C. chapters into the Maryland-DC Society of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Olsen is the former Director for the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), and the former Vice President of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Marti had a career in hematology at the NIH where he made significant contributions in the study of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He is currently a Special Volunteer managing a Digital Image and AI Project in the NIH Hematology Laboratory.  He practiced addiction medicine at the Montgomery County MAT Clinic and at the Phoenix Health Center in Hagerstown with Dr. Farah, a chapter past-president. Dr. Marti’s interests include the natural history of AUD, and funding for preventing overdose deaths through Overdose Fatality Reviews, in which he has participated for the last ten years. He was initially encouraged to join ASAM by Dr. Robert DuPont who was  the first NIDA Director.  Dr. Marti volunteered to assist Dr. Farah in his efforts to revive the chapter.  His first contribution was to organize a chapter educational meeting and arrange CME for attendees.

Dr Fishman is an addiction psychiatrist with expertise in clinical patient care, research, and program administration. He leads Maryland Treatment Centers, a community treatment program which offers programs for SUD and co-occurring disorders. He is a member of the faculty at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His research work has focused on medication treatments for SUD; models of SUD care for youth; family engagement in SUD treatment; and treatment placement and matching strategies. He was a member of the committee that developed the ASAM National Practice Guideline for the Treatment of OUD in 2015 and its update in 2020. He was a co-editor for past editions of the ASAM Criteria.

Dr. Gandhi is the Director of the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship Program and Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine

The late Dr. Farah was the founder and director of Phoenix Behavioral Center in Hagerstown, MD. He served on the Maryland State Board of Physicians, chaired state advisory committees on practice standards, was active in MedChi, the American Society of Addiction Medicine and other organizations, and was credited by several other past presidents with reinvigorating the Maryland chapter at the time of his chapter presidency.
